i watched hamilton.. FR! 🎤🇸🇬

The year was 2020. We were in lockdown and Hamilton was released on Disney+. I watched it and immediately became obsessed with it (5 years late but it’s ok hehe). Everyday I sang the songs in the house, and it’s as bad as until my mom recognizes the songs every time I play it. Everyday I would rap or sing “Alexander Hamilton”, “My Shot”, “Satisfied”, “The Schuyler Sisters”, etc. Every year I would rewatch and listen to the whole album over and over again. I even promoted the movie to my friends so I could have someone to talk to about it but nobody took it (but it’s ok and understandable). In 2024, I heard the Hamilton International Tour was coming to Singapore. At first, I didn’t have the immediate response of quickly booking tickets and going to watch it. But after some consideration, I decided to watch it, because:

(1) I don’t know if they will ever come back to some countries near Indonesia (aka only Singapore is the one that makes sense)

(2) There’s no way I’m flying to New York to watch this

(3) The level of my obsession just justifies my desire to watch this LIVE

Before the day I watched it, I’ve been replaying the album.. everyday.. and everyday I could play it 2-3 times.. for almost 2 months.. I’m crazy I know it. The album length is 2 hours and 22 minutes FYI.

Long story short, I flew to Singapore, brought my Hamilton art, took pics, and of course WATCHED THE SHOW.

After years just watching the 2016 Broadway live stage recording, I never thought I’d have the chance to witness this masterpiece with my own eyes and ears.. IRL.. Thank you so much @Lin_Manuel for this work of art and making it happen in Singapore!!!!!! My first ever visit to Singapore (yeah I know I’m kind of late visiting our neighbor) and my first solo travel to have my first experience of watching a musical, which is also (per today) my favorite musical!!!! WHAT A LIFE!!! Thank God for this. How lucky I am to be alive right now (although not in Manhattan). I will never get bored of it. My eyes could only focus on one person so sometimes I focused on seeing the current singer, but sometimes also focused on the ensemble. They might just be ensemble but it added so much! I remember most of their choreography though tehe. But after focusing on the ensemble, then I regretted because I missed a few seconds of the actor haha. My eyes were mostly on Aaron Burr. The show felt so freaking fast though. I think that’s a good sign.

I’m writing this exactly 7 days after watching Hamilton. And for that 7 days, I’m still playing the album everyday over and over again. I’m digging easter eggs on the internet. Like how the melody of counting before the duel (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9..) is played 3 times during the show, therefore the audience became familiar with it by the end of the show. It’s a nod to the lyric “I imagine death so much it feels more like a memory. When’s it gonna get me? In my sleep, 7 feet ahead of me? If I see it coming, do I run or do I let it be? Is it like a beat without a melody..). Or the fact that in Who Lives, Who Dies, Who Tells Your Story, George Washington said “She (Eliza) tells my story” and Eliza sang “I speak out against slavery”. AND THE FACT THAT GEORGE WASHINGTON HEARD THAT AND DECIDED TO BOW IN SHAME TO ELIZA BECAUSE HE DIDNT SPEAK OUT AGAINST SLAVERY. :”) Small details that I missed for 4 years.. I’m also currently reading Hamilton’s love letters to Eliza. I’ll update this post when I have new easter egg that I find.

FAQ: What is it about? It’s about Alexander Hamilton, one of the founding fathers of America which is not talked a lot compared to the other founding fathers (I think) and no it’s not about F1 racer Lewis Hamilton.
